ABOUT

This website contains content related to sexual harm, assault and/or violence, abuse and harassment that may be triggering for some people. If you feel you need to talk to someone or need some support, there are a list of nationwide contacts under the support services section.

Good practice policy, procedures and resources, accessed from Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally, have been collated and organised to support tertiary institutions to actively address sexual harm.

Navigating across the links will provide access to a range of information and resources to develop your institution’s response to sexual harm.

Users of this repository of collated resources are expected to be responsible for evaluating the quality of the materials accessed.

This online toolkit is designed to be freely accessible and flexible to allow for future changes. Please contact comms@universitiesnz.ac.nz with feedback and suggestions.

The idea for the toolkit was initiated by the inspirational 2015 Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington symposium ‘It’s up to us: Understanding and responding to violence’. This was followed by the 2016 Thursdays in Black report ‘In Our Own Words about student experiences of sexual violence in tertiary education.

Since then a group of staff and students from Lincoln University, Thursdays in Black Society UC, the University of Canterbury, Ara Institute of Canterbury, Canterbury District Health Board and TWANZ (Tertiary Wellbeing Aotearoa New Zealand, www.twanz.org) have been developing the toolkit. We are grateful to those people and organisations dedicated to preventing sexual harm and supporting those touched by it.

Thank you all.
